  1. Assigning driver letter from OSD Task sequence

Please have an option of assigning driver letter while creating the disk partition from the task sequence.

  2. Run existing Powershell Script without specifying package

"Run PowerShell Script" task sequence step needs a way to specify an existing script to run without needing to specify a package. For example, I already have working powershell scripts in my sms10000 folder. I should be able to specify %_SMSTSMDataPath%\SMS10000\somescript.ps1 as the script. That way scripts written to reference $PSScriptRoot, load powershell modules, reference relative paths, etc... will behave as expected.

  3. It would be nice to see the total space needed for a task sequence before it is created

It would be nice to see the total space required for a standalone task sequence media creation before the process starts. It doesn't help to try and create media when I don't know if it will fail due to the size of the flash drive

  4. ADK Version Numbers in filename

My idea is for Microsoft to put the version numbers in the file name of the ADK Installers. It gets confusing with all named the same: adksetup.exe

  5. OSD Task Sequence Maintenance Window and Client Override or ignore

Allow the ability to override maintenance windows and client settings during an initial OSD task sequence setup of a client device. This would allow the initial OSD, Drivers, applications and software updates to complete in an expected timeframe. Currently additional scripting and checks are required to accomplish "a ready to deliver device" to a client, and in most cases, additional updates are still pending after a device is delivered.

  6. Make some fail codes less cryptic when task sequences fail

A good example is when a task sequence fails due to a duplicate UUID / Nachine Name. Have the fail message explain the failure & list the actual duplicate UUID / Machine Name displayed.

  7. Offline Servicing Module: show all applicable updates, not just the ones downladed

Would be nice to have a way to see what updates are applicable to the images, not just crossed referenced with only downloaded updates.

  8. SCCM-MDT TS: Add Step Number before each step in the SCCM/MDT TS to help with trackign TS Reporting.

This would help with troubleshooting TS, if in the actual TS, to the left, it lists by number each step.

  9. Download content during Task Sequence ahead of current Step

Currently during a regular OSD Task Sequence, content is downloaded for each step as the TS reaches each step. A single swim lane if you will. This means the machine is always doing 1 of 2 things, downloading or installing.

Could it instead be possible to have 2 swim lanes? Split out Download and Install. It makes sense for this to be the case outside of WinPe..

For instance, whilst I'm installing Office, that may take lets say 20 minutes to install, but in the meantime the TS could be starting the download of the content for the next steps.ā€¦

  10. Make WIM changes on the fly

Add the option in Apply Operating System to add a script that can modify the WIM file once it is downloaded (i.e. changes would be local only to the current OS installation).

This would allow you to keep the WIM file as generic as possible while still allowing it to be modified, reducing the number of WIM files required in an environment that may require multiple WIMs per OS.

  11. Allow copying step from read-only task sequence view

Following on from the excellent view only option added to task sequences - https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/20361052-task-sequence-view-only-option - can we have the ability to copy a task sequence step from this view? We can already copy text from e.g. Run Command Line but we can't copy task sequence steps themselves or view conditions on steps in a way that allows copying text from them so we still need to open the task sequence in Edit mode to do this.

  12. Please improve boot media error messages

We have run into countless instances where our front line techs get error messages from boot media. They never know what it means and always have to go to tier 2 and 3 support for resolution. Often the solution is something simple they could take care of if they knew what happened, but because all they get is some error code (most often the ubiquitous and generally unhelpful 0x80004005) with no context they don't. They also don't take a few seconds to look it up or read logs, but that's a whole different problem :) Today we just ran intoā€¦

  13. Show Ethernet connection speed before start OSD task sequence

Sometimes the users just don't know their computer is actually connected LAN at 100 Mbps instead of 1Gbps due to network port issue or network cable issue. It will take almost 5 times longer time to complete the OSD task sequence. It just messes up the things. I hope the network connection speed info is visible in WinPE or give user a warning before kicking off the OSD task sequence.

  14. Extend information options on error dialog

It would be nice to have a button for extra information which shows a list of all the steps in a T.S with a Green tick for success, yellow for skipped, Orange for failed but continued, and Red for failed and ended the TS, along with exit codes.
Having the option to export logs automatically to either a network drive or USB key would make troubleshooting remote deployments so much easier.

    Similar to https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/13880781-task-sequence-error-dialog-box-needs-to-show-step,

  15. Allow usage of Deployment Tookit to remain cache durind OSD Deployment

On SCCM/MDT integration OSD deployment the MDT Deployment Toolkit its downloaded for gathering information among other tasks, but because of multiple reboots during OSD the deployment toolkit is downloaded multiple times which causes delays during OSD, it will be great if we could download and cache the Deployment Toolkit during the OSD build to be re-use to improve deployment overall time. This way the Task Sequence knows the package is local and there is no need to re-download the files.

  16. Add option to place DPs into maintenance mode while running an OS upgrade task sequence

Add an option to place DPs into maintenance mode while running an OS upgrade task sequence on the upgrade operating system step. Currently we run a powershell script every half hour to place non-responsive DPs into maintenance mode and bring any currently in maintenance mode that come back online out of maintenance mode, but it would be nice to allow the task sequence to do this to clear up the distribution queue.

  17. Allow Windows features to be enabled and disabled within OS image

Add the option to the GUI to enable or disable windows features within an OS install WIM in SCCM rather than relying on DISM. This would allow for significantly easier OS deployment and provide and easy method of verifying the features enabled in a WIM.

  18. Allow users to have different view/copy/modify permissions spanning across different Task Sequence folders

I would love to have the option to allow our users to have access to some Task Sequence folders but, not other folders.

I get the option to limit the folders but this prevents them from either being viewed or being copied/modified.

I would like my Task Sequences viewable but not editable. It would be great if users could copy from 'read only' area into their 'test' area and can the create/modify without any risk.

  19. Incorporate the ability to retain a machines name when imaging.

When reimaging a machine it would be most helpful if the machine would retain the name it already has. It greatly annoying that it gets renamed to "Desktop- something or another". Other imaging solutions have this ability (Acronis) without having to do it in some convoluted way; why can't SCCM? Thanks,

  20. Stop resolving environmental variables in Unattend.xm

Stop resolving environmental variables in Unattend.xml; for example, %SystemDrive% is resolved to ā€œX:ā€ which is of no usage in a RunSynchronousCommand. To clarify, TS Variables are fine as they are.
