  1. Easy way to change Settings package in Task sequence.

Now if you want to change settings package you need to manually find every single instance of Gather, and replace settings package. Why not have it set as TS preference, and you could set it once for a TS, like you do when you use wizard to set up TS.

  2. Allow converting AD Discovered computer objects DDR to full objects

    Bare metal deployment.
I would like to pre-stage object in AD with all its required group membership/correct OU location, so when the object is discovered & pulled to SCCM, I can convert it from DDR with resourceid starting with 20something (10 digits) to normal object with resourceid starting with 16something (8 digits) so I can do OSD with installation of Applications based on collections (that are in turn AD OU/group membership based).
Now I have to create objects in both AD & SCCM at the same time and STILL the useless DDR gets created anyway, which must be later deletedā€¦

  3. Add "Referenced by Task Sequence" item to Boot Image Summary or Details tab

    The problem:
When multiple admins are working on OSD Task Sequences, it is not obvious to see if a boot image is being called by a TS without going into the Properties of every single TS. This is exacerbated by WIMs created outside of SCCM, as is the case with MDT Boot images.

    Suggestion:
Add "Referenced by Task Sequence" item to Boot Image Summary or Details tab.

  4. Access task sequence variables when using run as following account

It would be nice to have access to task sequence variables in scripts when using the 'Run as following account' option. The work around I am using is to dump the variables i require out to a txt file using the run powershell script block options(very nice BTW). From here I can then reference the variables in my scripts.

Maybe adding them to the registry for the duration of the build, and gets deleted on TS error or completion, or something like RAM, so they disappear during a reboot or outside the TS and get created again if required, couldā€¦

  5. Offline servicing : install servicing stack update first

When scheduling offline updates to OS images, make sure SCCM install the Servicing Stack Update before the Cumulative Update (or allow the users to determine which update has to be installed first).

For example, I had an issue when trying to install SSU KB4498947 and CU KB4494440. SCCM tried to apply the CU before its prerequisite SSU, resulting in the CU being absent from the image.

And the worst thing is that I cannot create another schedule for this CU as it is now missing from the list of available updates. As if SCCM permanently consider this CU as nonā€¦

  6. Please add an option to choose that a OS deployment on the target Computer will be only enabled when a capture on the source PC was done

User State Migration: Please add an option to choose that a OS deployment on the target Computer will be only enabled when a capture on the source Computer was already done and the Migrated Data is on the Migration Point. Or add a possibility to query for the state Status in a dynamic Collection Membership rule. At the moment the target Computer can start there OS Deployment task sequence, even the migration data is not at the State Migration Point.

  7. A progress bar when distributing an OS image package to a DP

A progress bar would be very helpful when distributing an OS package to a DP. It will help track the package progress and get a better how long before the package will become available.

  8. Link groups or steps together in Task Sequence

Would be nice to have the ability to link identical groups or steps together, so that when you change one, all the linked ones also change.

This could be useful if you for example have a lot of repeating tasks in different parts of the task sequence, for example adjustments after reboots, or with different groups for software installations (where the steps are the same).

Groups\steps would probably need a "Link ID" and a visual change to reflect that the group\step is a linked group\step in the Task Sequence Editor.

Hi. Thanks for the feedback. What you’re suggesting is covered with this item – https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/8339997-daisy-chain-task-sequences-osd-and-non-osd

The idea being steps that are common would be seen as modular – so with the modular steps in a ‘parent’ task sequence(s) an update to the modular would then update in all.

Please have a read of the link and let me know if that will address your ask. If so then I’ll merge the votes.

You’ll also see a comment that the Nested Task Sequence has disappeared from Tech Preview – that will be rectified shortly.

  9. "retry this step if computer unexpectedly restarts"

Add the "Retry this step if computer unexpectedly restarts" option on the 'Options' tab for the Run Package, Run Command Line & Run PowerShell Script task sequence steps.

This is somewhat similar to this request: https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/8482756-osd-task-sequence-option-to-ignore-unexpected-reb

    I'd prefer a per-step option versus a blanket setting.

  11. Enable "Servicing Screen", similar to W7 Thin PC for large upgrades to prevent PC use...

Enable a "Service Screen" (similar to W7 Thin PC) for Software Updates, OSD, large-chained deployments to prevent PC use. Make it optional for the Admin to select to use it and basically reboot into "maintenance mode", run all tasks/Adverts and re-enable the standard UI again on the last reboot of the sequence. Enable the OS to get around this mode in safe boot, if necessary...

  12. Block reimage/ wipe when machine is flagged for eDiscovery

When machine (mobile or desktop) is marked for ediscovery, block a wipe or reimage. Online and offline image. This tag could be a special file on the un-encrypted partition, hard disk serial number or some other flag.

Task seq should notify user that reimage cannot be applied, console should notify if deployment is added to this machine. Same would happen if wipe is sent.

Override would require Yes/No only by eDiscovery user role.

  13. Task Sequence Media - backup to media rather than network.

In these days of huge USB drives, it would be really beneficial to be able to boot from USB media, then capture the .wim to that same media, rather than to a network location (which we don't have on many machines). Thank heaps.

  14. Task Sequence - Restart Computer to ANY boot image

When you choose Restart Computer in a Task Sequence you can only choose the assigned boot image or the installed OS. This requires we have duplicate Task Sequences for 32-bit vs 64-bit for UEFI, or we have to create child-Task Sequence relationships when really we should just be able to pick a boot image like any other package!

    Options should be:
    - Installed OS
    - Assigned Boot Image
    - Select a Boot Image

  16. MDT features in ConfigMgr

    Per Adam Meltzer's request:

Instead of having MDT installed by default with CM, have the option to include some of MDT's features into CM.

"Maybe a better request here would be to have some more feature parity between MDT and Configuration Manager. In other words, at minimum Configuration Manager should have all of the functionality MDT has."

  17. Windows 10 Customizations - TS & Workspace

Organizations prefer implementing a standard start menu and taskbar layout across all end user devices. There are powershell scripts available to achieve this during build sequence. However, it will be nice to have a built in feature\step in the TS to perform this. Also, with Windows 10 upgrades\servicing, I have seen issues with these layouts being reset to defaults. It may be worth adding a Windows 10 workspace of its own in the ConfigMgr console for creating customization policies and deploying them in conjunction with Compliance settings.

  18. Driver pack life cycle management

Driver pack life cycle management, This would make managing driver packs easier and create an easier mechanism for reporting to management that driver packs are up to date easily

    • Add fields to track last date verified to facilitate weather there is a new replacement

    • Supported OS releases as defined by vendor release docs, to assist in troubleshooting in the rare instance a driver does not work with a future release

    • Add Life cycle field for ie New/Testing/in use/soon to be replaced and retired

  19. Download content during Task Sequence ahead of current Step

Currently during a regular OSD Task Sequence, content is downloaded for each step as the TS reaches each step. A single swim lane if you will. This means the machine is always doing 1 of 2 things, downloading or installing.

Could it instead be possible to have 2 swim lanes? Split out Download and Install. It makes sense for this to be the case outside of WinPe..

For instance, whilst I'm installing Office, that may take lets say 20 minutes to install, but in the meantime the TS could be starting the download of the content for the next steps.ā€¦

  20. In OS OSD launches to overide existing deployments

In OS OSD launches to overide existing deployments - If you are blasting aware an OS why do you need to wait for a patching and application installs? This would speed up OSD testing.
