  1. Run Task Sequence - Add Set Variable Options on Step

I'd like the option to set Variables on the Run Task Sequence Step itself. Often times I need to pass variables into the Task Sequence, which will be different based on which Parent TS is calling the Task Sequence "Module".

Currently I have to have a Set TS Variable Step right before I call the Sub Task Sequence so the Sub TS knows which steps to run, or how to run them.

  2. Allow a task sequence to be re-run if failed

Provide the ability to re-run a task sequence when it's fail. The idea is to use TS variable or database to store different information about the failure (TS name, TS stpe, computer name, MAC address) where the error occured and then when the task sequence is restarted, it could ask if we want to restart from the failure step or from the begining.

  3. Task Sequence (Windows 10 1903) fails to install application with error "NotifyProgress received: 16 (Application failed to evaluate )"

Existing task sequence which was previously used to deploy Windows 10 version 1809,1803 & 1709, is not failing with version 1903.

Task Sequence fails while trying to install applications, none of the application gets installed. We are getting error "NotifyProgress received: 16 (Application failed to evaluate )".

If I change the install.wim from 1903 to 1809 or any previous version, it works absolutely fine.

Seems like bug with version 1903 only.

  4. Task Sequence(Windows 10 1903) progress hidden with screen stuck on screen ā€œJust a momentā€¦ā€

While Running Task Sequence to deploye custom image for Windows 10 version 1903, task Sequence doesn't show any progress bar in Full OS Mode.

Task Sequence progress bar works fine until WinPE Phase which includes image applying and download of "Setup Windows and configmgr". Right after the reboot when we are expecting to start Full OS phase starting with SCCM Client installation, there is blue screen shown with message "Just a moment..." till the time all the all the steps of task sequence completes successfully.

This doesn't bring a good customer experience.

  5. Tasks sequence - 'Install applications' task with multiple apps should not report 'Succeeded' state message between apps

A device on which a tasks sequence is running should report as "Running" as long as the tasks sequence has not reached its end, and report accordingly under the deployment summary tab and SSRS reports.

    Consider this scenario:
    1. Create a tasks sequence
    2. Add an 'Install Application' task, and chain a couple of applications in this task.
    3. Add another different task following it -- i.e. a 'Restart computer' task.
    4. Deploy this tasks sequence on a device.
    5. In the ConfigMgr console, go to Monitoring > Deployment, and display the TS deployment
    6. Frequently refresh this deployment summaryā€¦

  6. Task Sequence - Create "Merged" View including Sub TS as Group

I'd like in the Right Click Menu on a TS to have a "View" option that includes all of the Referenced Task Sequences populated into the TS as a Group.

We have so many sub task sequences in our main task sequence that sometimes it is easy to get confused where exactly a step is going to be run in the process. Providing a view that enumerates all of the steps from the sub task sequences and places them into the parent would be helpful. (just view, not edit) Similar to how the client merges all of the policies intoā€¦

  8. allow export all task sequences or folder of task sequences

We have many task sequences, sorted into folders for multiple users, when it comes to archiving them, it's tedious, we'd like to archive multiple task sequences by user (or by folder), this would be great, right now you have to export one task sequence at a time which is tedious.

  9. Make moving steps in the task sequence

For the task sequence steps make it easier to arrange the steps. Constantly have issues moving a step up the the chain steps to the top level group.

  10. Add "Referenced by Task Sequence" item to Boot Image Summary or Details tab

    The problem:
When multiple admins are working on OSD Task Sequences, it is not obvious to see if a boot image is being called by a TS without going into the Properties of every single TS. This is exacerbated by WIMs created outside of SCCM, as is the case with MDT Boot images.

    Suggestion:
Add "Referenced by Task Sequence" item to Boot Image Summary or Details tab.

  11. OS Upgreade TS: Add percentage complete next to the install bar.

OS Upgreade TS: Add percentage complete next to the install bar. It would be easier to keep tabs on the installations.

Thanks for your feedback and suggestion, updating status to started.

We had the same thoughts, we’ve added the percentage complete to the progress UI. Our recent 1903 Technical Preview has this change.

    See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/get-started/2019/technical-preview-1903
The progress UI change isn’t called out in the documentation but there’s info. there for how to download the tech preview builds.

  12. Pre-Caching only items that pass the "options" check for a device

This a two part request actually
    1. The ability to use the content already downloaded into the ccmache folder, rather than duplicating the required disk space by copying the content from ccmcache to _SMSTaskSequence\Packages during the TS execution.

    2. The ability for an in place upgrade Task Sequence with Pre-caching enabled to run the option checks on the TS steps (like WMI queries for driver packages) so that the device only downloads what is needed to run the upgrade on that device

The amount of additional disk space/network bandwidth required for both of these scenarios is magnitudes larger than itā€¦

  14. Allow entering XML data within task sequence apply OS step

Allow you to be able to paste in an unattend.xml file directly into the Apply Operating System Image task sequence step instead of having to use a package. Similar to how you can add a PowerShell script directly in to the task sequence step in SCCM 1902.

  15. Create Policy body cache in remote Management points for partial policy body requests.

On cases where a remote Management point uses a WAN link to communicate with Site Database server and clients leverage partial content download or range downloads for policy body download, it would be useful to have one fo two options:
    1. IF the client is forced to use range downloads for policy, the MP should cache the policy body received from the Database and fulfill the client request using the cached results vs. querying the policy from DB for each ranged request.
    2. IF #1 is not possible, then there should be a mechanism to disable the ranged requests forā€¦

  16. TSProgressUI.ShowMessage - Enable Output

Can you add Output to the ShowMessage Method Please.
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/develop/reference/core/clients/client-classes/iprogressui--showmessage-method

You currently have the ability to create a Message Box with several Options for the Buttons, but no matter what you pick, or options you choose, you never get anything actionable.

    Current Actions:

    0 - Ok
    1 - Ok/Cancel
    2 - Abort/Retry/Ignore
    3 - Yes/No/Cancel
    4 - Yes/No
    5 - Retry/Cancel
    6 - Cancel/Try Again/Continue

If you could have it Create a Variable upon the end of the step
    SMSTSShowMessageOutput = "ButtonName"

Which then would supply one of the following Values:

Ok, Cancel, Abort, Retry, Ignore, Yes, No, Retry, Tryā€¦

  17. Run remediation items in task sequence

The new step which lets you run powershell scripts in a task sequence have an open and a browse button. It would be awsome if a button was added which lets us select a configuration items remediation item (script or registry or w/e).

This way we can set up the machine the same say we do after it has its client configured but we dont need to add startup scripts or services to fix this before first logon.

  18. Option to clean disk 0 and create temp partition if WinPE staging fails in TS

We have a Win 10 image (X64) and then Win 7 (X86) for legacy apps. For Win10 we use the X64 WinPE image for UEFI. For Win 7 X86 we use the WinPE X86 WinPE image. Both TS (Win 7 and Win 10) is deployed to unknown Computers.

When a support person needs to deploy Win 7, the X86 WinPE image needs to be staged - This sometimes fails as previously Win 10 was deployed and the disk partition is EFI. The staging fails at this point. I know you can just F8, run Diskpart, clean the partition, run theā€¦

  19. Task Sequence Media - backup to media rather than network.

In these days of huge USB drives, it would be really beneficial to be able to boot from USB media, then capture the .wim to that same media, rather than to a network location (which we don't have on many machines). Thank heaps.
