  1. Add task sequence auditing

The inability to know exactly what changes were made (and by whom) in a task sequence is a significant pain point. Something close what AGPM provides for group policies would be ideal, but even basic auditing capabilities as a starting point would help tremendously.

  2. Windows 10 ADK Timeline parity with SCCM Build Releases to Support 30 Month Fall Release Support Cycle

It would appear at a high level that adjustments were not made to coordinate support timelines across the architecture of components for SCCM, Example, while extending Windows 10 1709 Ent. support to 30 months, I would expect the ADK to be supported with the Configuration Manager release 1810, (1903, 1909, etc.) to maintain parity with bug fixes.

    Thanks for your feedback.

For ADK support we always support N-1 i.e. current and previous version. This is the matrix we use for testing each release and forms this statement – https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/configmgr/core/plan-design/configs/support-for-windows-10#windows-10-adk

Each ADK can be used to deploy current and earlier versions of Windows 10. Between releases (either SCCM or ADK) there’s no fundamental change with how we interface.

Can you elaborate some more on what your request is here, please?

    Thanks and regards

  3. Download Package Content - Move instead of Copy and Delete

When utilizing the "Download Package Content" TS step and choosing to download to "Configuration Manager client cache", the data is first downloaded to the temporary folder smstasksequence. After that the data is copied to the Client Cache folder (%windir%\ccmcache) and as a last step the data is removed from the smstasksequence folder.
This process means that before the data in _smstasksequence is deleted, 2 copies of all data reside on the disk.
This results in the need for extra free space (2x the data) for the running TS.
A move instead of copy and delete might be a better option.

  4. Windows Monitor DPI Scaling aka Zoom

    Hello,

In Windows 10 (and I think since Windows 8), there's a new DPI Scaling method used. Now, we have the "zoom" option in the Display settings. The default scaling is based on a Microsoft calculation of the DPI, screen size and other mecanism.

This setting is per user and currently, there's no way to set a default value. For exemple, I got HP ProBook 650 which default to 125% zoom, resulting in less then 1080 actual resolution. I want all my computer to have a zoom of 100%.

I found the value that need to be change is under:

  5. Task Sequence Version Control

Please create a function to enable task sequence versioning. This feature would be very helpful for reverting back to a previous task sequence as well as accountability for the last user that modified the task sequence.

We write a lot of WMI queries as well as set various task sequence variables. These settings change over time and it would be a great feature to look back on a previous version to view the changes as well as the last user modification.

We currently make copies of our task sequences for this archival purpose. This process works for us now, butā€¦

  6. Upgrade Operating System Built-in Step: Add Option to Keep Files Only

Customer does not have the store installed and using the built-in TS step keeps files and apps. I know that the "OSDSetupAdditionalUpgradeOptions" variable can be used, but it would be nice to have the option on the built-in TS step.

    Thanks for responding.

We cannot provide a different migration options for the reasons I outlined below. Anything other than ‘Applications, Data and Settings’ will leave the machine unmanaged – while we developed the new upgrade step we tested them all.

I’ll see if I can source steps for reinstalling the Store without having to complete a restore.

  7. It would be great to export just task sequence xml file so it can be added into git repo in multi admin enviorment

It would be great just to get drop in task sequence to export task sequence xml file to it can be uploaded to external repository as way to keep track of changes in any change management system

  8. Task Sequence Import - Mass Overwrite / Ignore

When importing a TS, and you have multiple dependencies to import with it, would be nice to have a check box to overwrite all, instead of clicking on each one to overwrite, or ignore.

  9. Allow Application installation in Task Sequence for applications without content

When trying to add applications to be installed during OSD that do not have any content, the deployment will fail.

As we are heavily relying on wrapped Chocolatey packages for application deployments this would be a great Addition.

  10. Boot Image Azure Powershell

Include option to inject Azure Powershell Cmdlets (including Azure Automation) into Boot Images. As many organizations are moving to the cloud, including the ability to login and run tasks in Azure is a must.

Thanks for your feedback. Updating status to noted.

This item is very similar to "Add “AD Powershell Module” as Optional Component for boot images"

We had to decline that as we cannot ship or take a dependency on the AD module. Similarly we won’t be able to take a dependency on Azure PSH module – we can only add what’s in the ADK.

Your ask covers a bit more ground with the ability to run tasks in Azure so I’ll leave as noted for now.

  11. Task sequence step for S5 reboot (bypassing hyberboot)

Please add a task sequence step to trigger a full S5 reboot bypassing windows 10 hybrid sleep. This is required for bios updates for Lenovo computers dans requires very ugly hacks to keep the TS from exiting.

    Updating status to noted.

Thanks for your feedback. We have added a Task Sequence deployment type which should address your ask.

The opt-in phase of our 2002 release (fast ring) is now live and contains the changes for task sequence as a deployment type.

You can opt-in and then download 2002 through their Admin Console now.

  13. Support automatic deployment of Surface Bootable Media Recovery (BMR) images

Here's a crazy idea, can we get "Operating Systems" option for "Operating System Recovery Media", that perhaps could ingest the likes of the Surface Bootable Media Recovery (BMR) images? We have over 1,800 Surface devices, and each time we want to play with AutoPilot, the OOBE, or to decommission the devices in order to dispose of them, we need to manually perform this reset via the BMR images on USB keys... and it takes forever.

Why don't we use the "Restore from cloud" option?
Because we have a transparent proxy that provides authenticated Internet access, and creating a connection beforeā€¦

  14. Find and Replace \ Package Swap in Task Sequence

Allow the ability to right click on a Reference in a Task Sequence and change the package for a different one ( For example changing all of the 'Use Toolkit Packages' or 'Gather' steps in one go). This would be helpful when revving packages or applications that are referenced multiple times in a task sequence.

  15. Enhance task sequence step preprovision bitlocker with encryptionmode options

For MBAM clients I want to use preprovisioned bitlocker volumes.
A requirement is to use the AES256 encryption mode. The pre provision bitlocker step defaults to aes128, and cannot be changed in the step itself.
I now have a extra step before the preprovision bitlocker step with this command:
    cmd /c reg.exe add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\FVE /v EncryptionMethod /t REG_DWORD /d 4 /f

    Thanks to this website:

  16. Add the Option to rerun a deployed Task Sequence on specific Clients in a Device-Collection

Add the Option to rerun the deployed Task Sequence of a Device-Collection. Also it would be good to have the Option to rerun a deployed Task at the Monitoring-Tab in the failed-Tab.

  17. Apply Boundary Groups to WinPE Management Point selection

Currently it appears that when the SCCM agent in the WinPE boot image connects to a Management Point, it selects one without using the Boundary Group rules, instead selecting one from the AD published list, starting with the first alphabetically.
Instead this should behave like the full blown Windows SCCM Client and select a Management Point based on Boundary Groups such as IP range.
It is worth noting that Distribution Points are selected correctly according to Boundary Group by the WinPE client, for OSD content.

  19. Pre-Cache In-Place Upgrade - TS Variable to set OS Source

When doing a In-place upgrade and using Pre-Cache, the Task sequence process copies the needed files from Cache to _SMSTaskSequence\packages. This process can take some time when the in-place upgrade media is more than 4GB. this is unnecessary, there should be a variable to say install the OS directly from cache, or like the task sequence step to Download package content have a variable for the pre-cached source files that can then be used to access the OS later when upgrading, so that the content does not have to be copied from cache to the _SMSTaskSequence folder but rather accessedā€¦

  20. Need a feature to install and enable Unifed write filter along with ConfigMgr task sequence

We have an OS image with Unifed write filter feature enabled and after Setup Windows and ConfigMgr step, we use commands to enable write filter along with the reboot step. Right after the task seqeunce completes, the client machines reboots and now its write filter enabled machine. when it downloads the machine policy now, SCCM remote control is not working.

As a workaround, we used SMSTSPostAction variable to reboot the client machine 30 minutes after task seqeunce completes. 30 minutes time would let the client machine to download all the machine policy before the client machine reboot. After the rebootā€¦
