  1. Native patching in OSD

Provide the ability to deploy updates directly from a selected list of Update Groups instead of having to have an active software update deployment?

  2. windows 10 upgrade servicing

Support SUP/ESD/WSUS/update-based packages via the "Upgrade Operating System" task sequence step so that task sequence-driven upgrades can benefit from the smaller size of the ESD files (2.5GB) compared to the full media used today (3.5GB).

  3. OSD Task Sequence Restart Computer step needs "if reboot pending" option

Please add to the Restart Computer OSD task sequence step an option that will check if the system requires a reboot and then only restart the computer if it needs to. Right now to work around this need, we have to execute a PowerShell script and write the results to a custom task sequence variable and then use that variable as a condition on the Restart Computer step. Adding this option natively would be much more elegant. Attached is the script we're using.

  4. Enhance task sequence step preprovision bitlocker with encryptionmode options

For MBAM clients I want to use preprovisioned bitlocker volumes.
A requirement is to use the AES256 encryption mode. The pre provision bitlocker step defaults to aes128, and cannot be changed in the step itself.
I now have a extra step before the preprovision bitlocker step with this command:
    cmd /c reg.exe add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\FVE /v EncryptionMethod /t REG_DWORD /d 4 /f

    Thanks to this website:

  5. Start ProgressUI after reboot in Task Sequence at logon screen (non OS TS)

When you use Task Sequences (TS) to deploy software (non OS TS) and there is a reboot inside of the TS there will be no ProgressUI at the logon Screen after the reboot. So you can't see the Progress of the running TS or there is a TS running.
If You logon, after a short time the ProgressUI will start.
We started a MS Case (REG:116092814729429): This is a expected behavior because it's not planned for out of WinPE stage.

Please implement the start of the ProgressUI after the reboot inside of the TS, so we can see the Progressā€¦

  6. task sequence auto clear cache option after application install

When we deploy an operating system we like to deploy the majority of the required applications at that time to ensure the computer is locked for the entire process and when the user then goes to use the computer all the applications are available. The issue is some of our applications are large and we have to break up the install application step with a clear cache step to ensure the applications install successfully. Now with 1702 we can have up to 99 applications in the install application step but with out the intelligence built into the task sequence toā€¦

Updating status to started – see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/understand/find-help#send-a-suggestion for an explanation of values.

Our 1906.1 Technical preview is released today and contains changes to address this ask. On the Install Application steps there’s a new checkbox ‘Clear application content from cache after installing’.
This can be used for static or dynamic App install and is per step not per app so if you’ve been using the 99 max. you may want to refactor your task sequence to use multiple Install Application steps.

    For more info:
    Doc: https://docs.microsoft.com/sccm/core/get-started/2019/technical-preview-1906

  7. Allow us to pre-provision appx application types in the Task Sequence

ConfigMgr supports .appx deployment, but sometimes we want these on every machine, so our preferred way would be to do this in the Task Sequence.

Currently, the Add Application step in the Task Sequence doesn't let us browse for .appx packages.

Please consider adding support these during OSD.

  8. add download application content TS step

Today we have Add | Software | Download Package Content. There should also be a 'Download Application Content' step available. Same overall use case as the download package content step.

For me I am working with hardware vendor to deploy with onsite DP. Would be nice to pre-download apps since we've moved most stuff over to apps from packages.

  9. Make Task Sequence Use Global conditions

Please make Task Sequence somehow use Global conditions for better usability and experience. This would help tremendously in every situation for TS deployments, especially for using Preflight checks, which is becoming more and more critical for most deployments and upgrade tasks.

  10. Add the ability to deploy and manage drivers post OS deployment

what would be great to see is a mechanism which would allow for the deployment of drivers to client computers post the OSD. ideally it would be fantastic if it can use the same driver package as is used in the OS Deployment to save the administrative overhead needing to have 2 different ways to deploy updated drivers like we need to today where we package the drivers for OS deployment, while to deploy to the existing hardware we need to depend upon the vendors installation package which in some cases don't allow silent installation so requires a large amountā€¦

  11. Preflight checks support in OSD for Win10 upgrades

Provide a better way to support preflight checks for OS upgrades in terms of success/error being shown to users. Being able to show users a warning sign instead of a hard stop error would give better user experience. Currently, we either get "Installed successful" message, with having continue on error checked, or hard stop or scary error message that's presented to users if requirements aren't met. Everyone uses preflight checks now for OSD, please support it better with better notifications (customized) and error/warning handling.

Thanks for the feedback – updating status to Noted. See https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/configmgreng/2016/03/11/configmrguv/

As mentioned there’s some excellent samples provided from our MVP community. We’ll likely break this item to distinct pieces e.g. expanding Check Readiness step to test for Battery/Is Wired etc.

As well as preflight using /Compat prior to upgrade can help with finding issues before deployment. For 1806 that will now run without stopping CCMExec (setting ProvisioningMode).
Coupled with using /Compat for upgrade Windows produced SetupDiag to help diagnose upgrade blockers in more detail – see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/upgrade/setupdiag

  12. Add ability to not include Autorun.inf when building SCCM OSD boot media.

Our Antivirus/malware tools blocks autorun.inf in our environment as well as it is a huge attack vector

  13. Built-in OSD Tattoo Steps \ Registry Edits

We currently have custom scripts that run during an OSD Task Sequence that Tattoo the registry with the computer name, technician who started the TS, date, TS name, TS Version, etc. etc. I would like to see a built in step where you could fill in these values whether it be a static value in or a variable. This built in tattoo could also already be in the hardware inventory by default so we can build collections around task sequence versions.

We also have a TS that we use primarily for a kiosk w/s and is set to AutoLogon toā€¦

  14. Remove from Collection / Move to Collection in OSD

Sometimes it might be handy to remove a computer from the OSD collection as a final step during the task sequence. Or additionally add the computer to additional collection(s) for for example extra software deployment or another task sequence.
Now scripts need to be created therefore and in my experience this doesn't always work well.
A predefined step where the collectionname or collectionID needs to be added to add (or remove) the computer to (or from) would be much appreciated.

  15. Suppress user logon while using Task Sequences outside of OSD that require a restart

When using task sequences to deploy applications or settings that require a restart, please include a check box on the "Restart Computer" action to suppress the user logon actions (ie. Ctrl + Alt + Del).

  16. Windows 10 Inplace Upgrade, support MUI Images

We use in Switzerland a EN-US MUI Windows 7 (DE/FR/IT) an we plan inplace upgrade to Windows 10 1607. After Upgrade Windows 10 is only in english upgraded. (We can only use a en-us win10, another language image crashed the TS) Please add a step for set one or more LP in the upgrade process (Native, please no Scripting, MDT etc.)
The same Procedure we require for the Win10 Upgrades via WSUS (1511->1607->1703...) After upgrade we must add manually via Tasksequence the other language packs. Why?

  17. Add TFPBlockSize and TFTPWindowsSize to the DP configuration page in the Admin Console

It would great to be able to configure TFTPBlocksize and TFTPWindowsSize on PXE-enabled DPs from the Configuraiton Manager console, and not having to edit the registry or to use Configuration Item/Baseline to do this. An option on the PXE tab in the Distribution Point properties please?!

  18. Prevent OSD from creating additional UEFI Windows Boot Managers

If a machine already has a Windows Boot Manager in UEFI, OSD will create a new one anyway which means the machine can potentially have many Windows Boot Managers if it gets re-imaged multiple times, if someone does not manually delete them.

  19. Display what distribution point is being used during a task sequence.

When using a task sequence I would like to know what DP is being used since we have multiple DPs and would hope that I'm not using one on the other side of town. IE......Applying Operating System from "Distribution Point" or Installing Application from "Distribution Point."
