  1. Administration service URL Task Sequence variable

With the new great possibilites using the Administration Service it would be great to have a Built In task sequence variable with the URL to the SMS Provider(s) so we can easily call that in our OSD Powershell scripts during OSD

  2. Allow Windows features to be enabled and disabled within OS image

Add the option to the GUI to enable or disable windows features within an OS install WIM in SCCM rather than relying on DISM. This would allow for significantly easier OS deployment and provide and easy method of verifying the features enabled in a WIM.

  3. Bitlocker Network Unlock with WDS-less PXE

With Bitlocker Network Unlock, a WDS server can automatically unlock your bitlockered device without requiring the user typing the PIN at boot. (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/information-protection/bitlocker/bitlocker-how-to-enable-network-unlock).
As we all go forward using the SCCM WDS-less PXE-provider instead of WDS, it would be a good idea, if it supported Bitlocker Network Unlock, too.

  4. Show Ethernet connection speed before start OSD task sequence

Sometimes the users just don't know their computer is actually connected LAN at 100 Mbps instead of 1Gbps due to network port issue or network cable issue. It will take almost 5 times longer time to complete the OSD task sequence. It just messes up the things. I hope the network connection speed info is visible in WinPE or give user a warning before kicking off the OSD task sequence.

  5. Please improve boot media error messages

We have run into countless instances where our front line techs get error messages from boot media. They never know what it means and always have to go to tier 2 and 3 support for resolution. Often the solution is something simple they could take care of if they knew what happened, but because all they get is some error code (most often the ubiquitous and generally unhelpful 0x80004005) with no context they don't. They also don't take a few seconds to look it up or read logs, but that's a whole different problem :) Today we just ran intoā€¦

  6. Retain Task Sequence Editor window size and position

Make the Task Sequence Editor retain it's last known size and position, and allow the left/right panes to always be freely resized.

Currently, every time you open view/edit a task sequence, the window reverts to it's default size and split-pane size; the left-pane with the list of steps is too narrow to see all the nested step names and can't be expended until the entire window is resized larger.

  7. add "not like" in the task sequence condition, variable

Add "not like" in the task sequence condition, variable. If we have like, wouldn't it be reasonable to have not like as well? I have some scenarios that are easily resolved with a "not like" condition for a task sequence variable, but more complex with just "like"

  8. Add MP Selection/Priority Setting to PXE-Enabled DP Settings

PXE-Enabled DPs currently pass their Management Point List on to PXE Clients, as reflected in the "ManagementPoints" list in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\DP; this seems to be an alphabetical list of MPs in the infrastructure which may not reflect the actual MP(s) the PXE client should communicate with.
On the PXE-Enabled DP, in HKLM\OSFTWARE\Microsoft\CCM, the AllowedMPs registry value can be created and populated. The PXE Responder will honor this list when setting up the PXE Client's environment.

A field should be added to the PXE settings of a DP to allow configuring of this setting, or to override the site's MP List thatā€¦

  9. Task sequence options tab - Enable/Disable Conditions

there should be an option for disable/enable all conditions. For testing or debug, without deleting conditions, we can disable them and then re-enable.

  10. Access task sequence variables when using run as following account

It would be nice to have access to task sequence variables in scripts when using the 'Run as following account' option. The work around I am using is to dump the variables i require out to a txt file using the run powershell script block options(very nice BTW). From here I can then reference the variables in my scripts.

Maybe adding them to the registry for the duration of the build, and gets deleted on TS error or completion, or something like RAM, so they disappear during a reboot or outside the TS and get created again if required, couldā€¦

  11. Conditions Library for Task Sequence Editor

We often find ourselves duplicating conditions in Task Sequences. The ability to copy/paste/move conditions in TP 1908 is excellent but I would suggest we could go one step further.

To have a conditions library where we could select custom - predefined conditions would be excellent. We should be able to add/edit/delete our own predefined conditions.

  12. monitor the ConfigMgr PXE Responder Service

I would like a way to monitor the ConfigMgr PXE Responder Service when an error occurs. For instance, when starting an osdeploy and the bootimage fail to load with error 0xC0000001, the smspxe.log simply stops its output, not generating any error. With the WDS-service, this error was easily detected in the eventlog.

Updating status to Noted, see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/understand/find-help#send-a-suggestion for an explanation of each value.

Thanks for your feedback, we added the status messages for our ConfigMgr PXE responder in our 2002 release.

    See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/configmgr/core/plan-design/changes/whats-new-in-version-2002#improvements-to-os-deployment for more information.

  13. Add option to place DPs into maintenance mode while running an OS upgrade task sequence

Add an option to place DPs into maintenance mode while running an OS upgrade task sequence on the upgrade operating system step. Currently we run a powershell script every half hour to place non-responsive DPs into maintenance mode and bring any currently in maintenance mode that come back online out of maintenance mode, but it would be nice to allow the task sequence to do this to clear up the distribution queue.

  14. Task Sequence Variable to DISABLE all Status Messages

We need a variable to disable sending status messages completely.

    Different than "SMSTSDisableStatusRetry".

    Perhaps: "SMSTSDisableStatusMessages"

Very similar to another request that has been closed, but need to be able to have a TS run an never even try to send a status message.
    Other UV: https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/17846260-add-osd-variable-to-not-send-status-messages

  15. A task sequence step that dumps SMS logs to a network share on TS failure

Add a step or option to a task sequence that will dump any SMS logs to a predefined location, either a network share or USB drive.

It is a total PITA to watch every machine as a TS runs so we cant always copy the logs off before the machine automatically reboots.

  16. Allow usage of Deployment Tookit to remain cache durind OSD Deployment

On SCCM/MDT integration OSD deployment the MDT Deployment Toolkit its downloaded for gathering information among other tasks, but because of multiple reboots during OSD the deployment toolkit is downloaded multiple times which causes delays during OSD, it will be great if we could download and cache the Deployment Toolkit during the OSD build to be re-use to improve deployment overall time. This way the Task Sequence knows the package is local and there is no need to re-download the files.

  17. Extend information options on error dialog

It would be nice to have a button for extra information which shows a list of all the steps in a T.S with a Green tick for success, yellow for skipped, Orange for failed but continued, and Red for failed and ended the TS, along with exit codes.
Having the option to export logs automatically to either a network drive or USB key would make troubleshooting remote deployments so much easier.

    Similar to https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/13880781-task-sequence-error-dialog-box-needs-to-show-step,

  18. Task Sequence Detection Method

It would be very useful to be able to control if a Task Sequence has been "Installed" or not by adding a custom detection method like we have in the AppModel.

This is valid in scenarios where we do a bare metal required rollout and in in-place-upgrade scenarios. Combined with having different versions of a task sequence being deployed.

Updating status to Noted – see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/configmgr/core/understand/find-help#send-a-suggestion for an explanation of each value.

We recently introduced Task Sequence as a deployment type for applications – see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/configmgr/core/get-started/2020/technical-preview-2001-2#bkmk_tsdt

This is also in our 2002 release which is in the opt-in phase at the moment.

With this you can specify detection methods the same way you would for applications.

Regarding your comment for bare metal – could you elaborate on your scenario? With bare metal the machine is wiped and would have no ‘history’. In a bare metal case the registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\CM_DSLID records the package ID of the image used, that may be of use to you here? Any more detail you can provide would be great, thanks.

  19. Store output of run command line to TSEnv with "RunAsUser".

Running a step as a user prevents you from using the TSEnvironment in order to store any data returned.

The step could be anything, like getting a byte array of a certificate, ad-groups of the computer or primary user or as in this example, getting the TPM OwnerAuth from MBAM.

I would rather store it directly in the TSEnv instead of in a temporary file and run another script to read the file just to be able to use the password, as a variable, from a ā€œRun commandlineā€-step.

The only other workaround Iā€™ve found this far is running the stepā€¦

  20. Please add an option to choose that a OS deployment on the target Computer will be only enabled when a capture on the source PC was done

User State Migration: Please add an option to choose that a OS deployment on the target Computer will be only enabled when a capture on the source Computer was already done and the Migrated Data is on the Migration Point. Or add a possibility to query for the state Status in a dynamic Collection Membership rule. At the moment the target Computer can start there OS Deployment task sequence, even the migration data is not at the State Migration Point.
