  1. Ability to specify the keyboard layout in the Boot Images properties

I know we can use the DISM command to set the input locale but from my point of view it should exist a field in the Boot Image properties where you could specify the layout you want.

  3. Integrate the MDT frontend into SCCM

It would be great if the MDT integration also allows the MDT front end to be used. It is robust enough for many to not need to use the MDT UDI or even community developed frontends.

Most especially is how you can have pre-defined software but still allow a tech to select addition software that doesn't meet any defined criteria.

I get that SCCM is more zero touch but the frontends developed by the communities seems to indicate that this is lacking in SCCM.

  4. powershell task sequence conditions

It would be nice if you could use a Powershell script in much the same way you can as a configuration item but as a task sequence condition. I had a situation recently where I needed to create a PS object from a WMI query and query a particular property that wasn't explicitly exposed which kept failing with the native WMI query option. I worked around it but a 'use powershell script' option would have been great.

  5. Bypass "Press Enter" Prompt on Available TS Deployments with CM WDS UEFI PXE Boot

When you deploy an OSD TS as Available, you are prompted to "Press ENTER for network boot service." If you do not press enter it instead boots to the OS (if any). This does not occur when using a required deployment. It would be useful to bypass this for available deployments.

This behavior is documented by Microsoft.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/osd/deploy-use/use-pxe-to-deploy-windows-over-the-network#BKMK_Deploy

There is a previous UV that mentions this from 2017, but it was declined. The reasoning does not pan out for me, though. It does not appear to be a hardware issue as it occurs on both physical and virtual workstations. Itā€¦

  6. Add Support for Software Updates in "Download Package Content" Task Sequence Step

It would be really useful to be able to pre-stage Software Update content (specifically Windows 10 Feature Updates) using Download Package Content Task Sequence steps.

For example, this would allow Feature Updates to be downloaded onto a Peer Cache Source to "seed" an update in a network location where there is no local Distribution Point and slow network connectivity = saving WAN bandwidth to prevent any network-related impact to clients at that location.

The same could be done for Quality Updates as required.

  7. Assigning driver letter from OSD Task sequence

Please have an option of assigning driver letter while creating the disk partition from the task sequence.

  8. Allow a task sequence to be re-run if failed

Provide the ability to re-run a task sequence when it's fail. The idea is to use TS variable or database to store different information about the failure (TS name, TS stpe, computer name, MAC address) where the error occured and then when the task sequence is restarted, it could ask if we want to restart from the failure step or from the begining.

  9. ConfigMgr console shows incorrect image version (OS Version) at Operating System Images

On previous Windows 10 builds updates installed on RTM fresh machine was tend to change ServicePackMajor field, in contrast on later releases like RS4 installed updates incrementing ServicePackMinor

Both Windows 10RS4 RTM(ServicePackMinor=0) and Windows 10RS4 with installed updates (ServicePackMinor=320) will still have 10.0.17134.1 representation if it is constructed using
    MajorVersion. MinorVersion. BuildNumber. ServicePackMajor pattern
Is it possible that latest SCCM builds will display the ServicePackMinor number too at the image properties?

  10. Add delay/retry option in the "Apply Network Settings" step in the Task Sequence.

With all of the new USB type NIC dongles needed to image devices, I've run into issues with some devices not joining the domain because the internal NIC didn't initialized in time. I know there's a "Join Domain or Workgroup" step you could add but it would be easier if the retry/delay could be included in the "Apply Network Settings" step versus having to create another group/step as a backup. Or even creating a TS variable that could be adjusted in the TS similar to SMSTSDownloadRetryCount & Delay.

  11. MVP-Task Sequence join azure AD

With more and more devices being connected to azure AD, SCCM should have an option to perform a zti deployment and join the newly deployed Windows 10 to azure AD only. not hybrid where GPO needs to exist, but a native support where the connection to SCCM already exist but the computer will not be connected to the onprem domain.

  12. Make moving steps in the task sequence

For the task sequence steps make it easier to arrange the steps. Constantly have issues moving a step up the the chain steps to the top level group.

  13. Mechanism for deploying driver updates to existing workstations

Would be great if we have a task sequence wizard that guides you through easy UI to deploy driver packages containing updated drivers to device collections. Using WMI queries with that TS can provide admins with the ability to update drivers in very organized modern way instead of Package\app way we admins use now.

  14. A progress bar when distributing an OS image package to a DP

A progress bar would be very helpful when distributing an OS package to a DP. It will help track the package progress and get a better how long before the package will become available.

  16. Allow entering XML data within task sequence apply OS step

Allow you to be able to paste in an unattend.xml file directly into the Apply Operating System Image task sequence step instead of having to use a package. Similar to how you can add a PowerShell script directly in to the task sequence step in SCCM 1902.

  17. Create Policy body cache in remote Management points for partial policy body requests.

On cases where a remote Management point uses a WAN link to communicate with Site Database server and clients leverage partial content download or range downloads for policy body download, it would be useful to have one fo two options:
    1. IF the client is forced to use range downloads for policy, the MP should cache the policy body received from the Database and fulfill the client request using the cached results vs. querying the policy from DB for each ranged request.
    2. IF #1 is not possible, then there should be a mechanism to disable the ranged requests forā€¦

  18. Option to clean disk 0 and create temp partition if WinPE staging fails in TS

We have a Win 10 image (X64) and then Win 7 (X86) for legacy apps. For Win10 we use the X64 WinPE image for UEFI. For Win 7 X86 we use the WinPE X86 WinPE image. Both TS (Win 7 and Win 10) is deployed to unknown Computers.

When a support person needs to deploy Win 7, the X86 WinPE image needs to be staged - This sometimes fails as previously Win 10 was deployed and the disk partition is EFI. The staging fails at this point. I know you can just F8, run Diskpart, clean the partition, run theā€¦

  19. Task Sequence Media - backup to media rather than network.

In these days of huge USB drives, it would be really beneficial to be able to boot from USB media, then capture the .wim to that same media, rather than to a network location (which we don't have on many machines). Thank heaps.

  20. Enable Task Sequences to automate an existing OEM/Reset image (from OOBE)

Part of the big push for modern management, and solutions such as AutoPilot, is so that you "don't need to spend time replacing a perfectly good OS that is already on the device". Especially when dealing with clean devices such as Surface, this makes complete sense... except in cases where AutoPilot and Intune aren't used or cannot be used.

My suggestion is: Let's create an option for a PXE-enabled Task Sequence to run, and essentially perform the automation of the existing OOBE, by essentially bypassing the partitioning and WIM application steps. That way, much like the selling points for modernā€¦
