  1. WMI Query Builder for Task Sequence Options

In the Task Sequence/Options window, I can add a condition for a particular step by adding an "if" criterion that matches a WMI query, similar to building a device collection. This way, particular steps in a task sequence would only execute if a device happened to be in the selected AD OU or another, for example.

But in the WMI Query builter for device collections includes a click-here type of builder, whereas the query window in the task sequence just has a blank text box.

While I could either write the query by hand (and hope it's correct) to seeā€¦

  2. Add native error handling section to task sequences.

Within a task sequence it would be great if we had better native error handling. Right now it's possible to get log files via powershell scripts and tricking task sequences with a step that looks for _SMSTSLastActionSucceeded = False, but this causes us to lose accurate error descriptions if we also want to setup a status filter rule.

Instead having native error handling that would simply copy the computers last smsts.log to a share would be fantastic that way status filter rules still work.

  3. Allow multiple lines in Run Command Line for Task Sequences

Currently we can only add one command line per task. Can that be changed to add support for multiple command lines and only return the error code on the resulting script? This would allow for much faster development and trouble-shooting in task sequences.

  4. unknown computers distribution point

make a separate Unknown Computers Collection for each Distribution Point, in that way you could make a task sequence available to computers in specific boundaries.

  5. Re-think task sequence policy download in OS

Currently deployed task sequences create a lot of policy download and slow down the initialisation of a workstation. If they worked like in bootable media, or another way - I don't know if say downloading the TS policies as a zip would help?

  7. DCR: Provide Application content identifiers in the task sequence environment.

This will allow Alternate Content Providers to perform pre-flight content availability checks and download content not cached locally before the content is required. At the moment. smsappinstall.exe only obtains the content identifier when executed using the ScopeId_...

  8. Allow "Hide collections with a member count greater than..." to apply to non OSD task sequences marked as high impact

Currently only OSD Task Sequences will cause deployment verification to filter large collections.

Add support for non OSD collections too

  9. Move the duplicate hardware id's option to a more appropriate location

Hierarchy settings does not seem to be the most appropriate location for this, engineers in the field would be adding dongle MAC addresses quite often.

  10. Problem with verifying connection in Join Domain step

I'm seeing an issue with verifying the account used for joining the domain in a task sequence. Despite choosing a domain and OU, when I click verify it is defaulting to Users > Contoso

  11. Improve the Only Media and PXE handling for Task Sequences

It seems that SCCM clients running in Windows process policies for Task Sequences made available to Only Media and PXE. We recently made the mistake of making our production task sequence available to all known workstations and then had all SCCM clients overload the MPs with requests seemingly for all of the components within the complicated task sequence. SCCM should first check if a deployment even applies to a client before allowing it to see or process it. A client should only see and evaluate deployments that apply to it.

  12. Ability to stagger the start of each task sequence by wim download percentage.

To reduce network load and decrease deployment time the ability to kick a huge batch of them off all at the same time and walk away while they automatically stagger the download of the wim one system at a time based on the last systems wim download percentage.

  13. "retry this step if computer unexpectedly restarts"

Add the "Retry this step if computer unexpectedly restarts" option on the 'Options' tab for the Run Package, Run Command Line & Run PowerShell Script task sequence steps.

This is somewhat similar to this request: https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/8482756-osd-task-sequence-option-to-ignore-unexpected-reb

    I'd prefer a per-step option versus a blanket setting.

  14. Task Sequence Media - Bootable but with content

Allow adding content for a task sequence to a media that works like the Bootable media, if content is local and up2date use that otherwise pull from DP.

And if this content would be stored on the media but outside the .wim file, it would not increase load time for WinPE and maybe even allow updates of single items instead of rebuild entire media to include small changes to content

  16. Service Mode on WES7

When the config manager package is made part of the task sequence, the device remains in service mode until the next window. Workaround was to use a 24hr maintenance window.

Please can this be fixed in the next release of a hotfix created

  18. MDT features in ConfigMgr

    Per Adam Meltzer's request:

Instead of having MDT installed by default with CM, have the option to include some of MDT's features into CM.

"Maybe a better request here would be to have some more feature parity between MDT and Configuration Manager. In other words, at minimum Configuration Manager should have all of the functionality MDT has."

  19. When copying collection or task sequence any password variables are empty, there should be a window to set all those variables at once

After copying collection and task sequence, it is easily missed to configure all those passwords hidden at the collection variables and in various task sequence steps.

There is no reminder or anything, so it would be nice if there is a popup to prompt for all those passwords.

  20. Extra Information about members of collection about required deployments(especially in task sequence)

When a tasksequence is deployed as required, especially for operating system deployment, the summary screen shows the collection name and the members count.
This step is very error prone and dangerous in case wrong collection is selected.
There should be an extra screen before required os depyment task sequence, which shows the collection name and all the members of the collection. Thus, the user will be aware about the error if it makes before.
an extra security step will be very useful.

PS: many companies lived this scenario with formatted computers mistakenly :(
