  1. Provide Dynamic Application Install Support for task sequences for re-imaging

Say you are re-imaging a machine which is assigned to multiple collections for applications which have been installed in the past.

It would be nice to see a feature to find out why collections the computer is part of during the re-image to reinstall those applications.

Otherwise you have to wait until the re-image has completed then allow the policies to kick in then they install which delays returning the machine to a user.

  2. While creating task sequence media a lot of time is wasted when you only see afterwards (or during use) that it would fail.

There should be a check at the very beginning of creation whether or not the Variables.dat would be exceeding its limit of 32MB.

It takes a lot of time to create media, and when you only find out afterwards that the Variables.dat is much bigger in size and thus the Task Sequence would fail, a lot of time is wasted

  3. SCCM Console UI: Merge task sequence properties into Edit

It would make sense to merge task sequence properties into Edit.
Also you can't view both at once right now

  4. When using dynamic app installs the error used when the application isn't found is the one where the policy download fails.

It's technically correct, but we search at the wrong point with this error. A message that the application (name) wasn't found would be more valuable.

    thanks

Thanks for the feedback. We include CMTrace.exe in the boot images so logs can be read in WinPE, that tool is part of the SCCM Toolkit and can also be found on the site server under \OSD\Bin\\CMTrace.exe

For OS Deployment logs there’s a section here which helps – https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh427342.aspx – the main OS Deployment log is SMSTS.log

We have an open item for improving logging, copy logs etc – I’ll add your feedback to that item.

Hi. Prior to 1610 we ‘sysprepped’ the Client removing Certs, TRK etc. In 1610 we have changed to remove the client completely – see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/core/plan-design/changes/whats-new-in-version-1610 for What’s New in 1610

See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sccm/osd/understand/task-sequence-steps#BKMK_PrepareConfigMgrClientforCapture for detail on the changes in the task sequence Prepare ConfigMgr Client for Capture step

Where you have issues with the client not being fully removed in SCCM 2012. If so can you elaborate on what they were and also let us know if the changes for removing the client address your issues.

  7. UEFI to BIOS conversion

understand that in sccm 1609 that is a function to convert bios to uefi in OSD task sequence. will there be a function to convert uefi to bios as well?

  8. Allow Task Sequence Editor to retain the window size from the previous session.

The default window is too small to see the window pane contents properly. It always needs to be enlarged. Either make it larger as a default or allow the user to set the size and retain it across sessions.

  9. Fully automate creation of new Boot Disks

When you need to create a boot disk you need to go through multiple steps. When ConfigMgr setup is run Boot Disk creation is fully automated using the installed ADK. I would love it if there were a one button option to create a boot disk in the console using whatever version of the ADK is currently installed.

  10. Use inventory information to download drivers from Microsoft Update

This would provide an easy way to deploy drivers in OSD task sequences.

  11. Dynamic application and package deployment for prestage media

We are trying to use prestage media to deploy images to machines on sites with little bandwidth, but still with a network connection to the corporate network.

We have a large number of sites and our current online build uses an MDT database with Roles and Make / Model configurations for a large number of sites and hardware types.

Within each of these, we have a number of packages and applications which are installed depending on the site / model required.

This all works fine for an online build, however when using prestage media, even if we include the packagesā€¦

  12. Block reimage/ wipe when machine is flagged for eDiscovery

When machine (mobile or desktop) is marked for ediscovery, block a wipe or reimage. Online and offline image. This tag could be a special file on the un-encrypted partition, hard disk serial number or some other flag.

Task seq should notify user that reimage cannot be applied, console should notify if deployment is added to this machine. Same would happen if wipe is sent.

Override would require Yes/No only by eDiscovery user role.

  13. OSD - task sequence media - network

the task sequence media has been created for offline scenarios, so the data does not get copied to the sccm. it would be great to have a task sequence media that is online, so all information is also sent and the checks also happen, like a boot image does, the only difference would be instead of downloading the software from the DP it would use the local usb/dvd disk

  14. Remove apps bundled with system image

At the moment we have to remove several apps from Windows 10 with a script after installation. For example, we have to remove Mail and Skype because we deploy Outlook and Skype for business.

As currently the Windows 10 image gets updated twice per year we also have to update the script as well because the version numbers change.

I'd like to propose an option where you can edit the properties of the image and you can deselect apps (and maybe other components as well).

  15. bandwidth throttling for OSD

The "Rate Limits" tab on a DP works for transfers from the Primary to a DP. Can we make Rate Limits work while re-imaging computers on the local subnet? We have had users complain that the network is slow while doing OSD. Intelligent bandwidth throttling on the local subnet that a DP manages could help stop this.

  16. Allow disabling the option to create dynamic boot medias

Provide an option for administrators to prevent the creation of dynamic boot medias. In several single primary site Environments of my customers which also have MPs in DMZ dynamic boot medias fail sporadically, as they select a MP that they cannot reach. Telling them not to use Dynamic Media helps only temporarily, until somebody clicks Next without thinking and then ends up in complaining that the Boot Media does not work always. Alterrnatively the MP selection should be Boundary aware as introduced in CM2012 R2 SP1.

  17. Allow to select Management Point in WinPE based on boundary/boundary group

There are several scenarios where this would be really helpfull, especially in High-Security environments where clients and servers are spread accorss different Firewall Zones. WinPe will eventually query the right MP for policy but it could take a while.

  18. Dynamically Set TimeZone During OSD From DP

Create a task sequence step which could be optionally added to dynamically set the time zone on a client during OSD based upon the time zone of the distribution point said client is retrieving content from.

  19. Update all instances of package in a task sequence

We have multiple packages that are used by multiple steps during a task sequence (scripts packages and custom software packages that take multiple steps to install). Since said package might be referenced by a half dozen or dozen steps, when a package revision is made, all references must be updates... which is easy to miss some. It would be great to update the first step referencing the package, then click a button to 'Update all References' and every other step that references the old package gets updated to the new package.

The whole purpose here is we don't update existingā€¦

    Noted  ·  sangeev responded

    Thanks for the feedback.

We’ve started work on this item – https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/8339997-daisy-chain-task-sequences-osd-and-non-osd – this will allow ‘modular’ task sequence

I think this will solve your ask too. In your case you would update one task sequence – that task sequence would be referenced by others. One it’s updated with the new scripts package for example, then all task sequence that call that one will have the updated scripts.

    Does that address your scenario?

  20. Task Sequence Monitor

Please create a task sequence monitor app similar to the options offered by this 3rd party software (https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/ConfigMgr-Task-Sequence-fefdc532). This app should also be part of the console. This OSD monitoring process is needed for organizations that have IT technicians in different locations with the need to look at each location respective OSD process status. The external app can be useful for locations where the console is not needed, or the IT technicians do not know how to work with SCCM. I believe that SCCM can provide a more efficient method to monitor task sequences by default without theā€¦
