  1. Ability to set a site-wide default Maximum Run time

I see that there is another similar post about this but rather than MS just simply increasing the default max run time for CU's, why not give admins the ability to set the default Max Run Time centrally?

The amount of time a patch takes to install is going to vary based on the type of hardware being used. Where one company might have hardware that can do it in 30mins, others might need more like 45 mins.

It makes more sense for a setting like this to be managed centrally by admins.

  2. Create SUP deployment from collection without re-downloading the content

When you create a Windows update deployment from a collection, in the wizard there is no check done by SCCM if the patches are already downloaded.
In our environment we do monthly packages so updates in different packages can be part of the same software update groups.

What we would like is that when you create a software update deployment from a collection and you specify a Software update group, SCCM does the same checks that it does about downloaded patches, that is done when the deployment is created directly below the software update group.

    You can see the differenceā€¦

  3. Include cross-references to embedded updates in http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com

Sometimes Microsoft embeds KBs into other KBs.

For example, KB3173424 and KB3173426 (depending on OS) are embedded into MS16-100 KB3172729

This can be seen in the SCCM 2012 R2 console by right-clicking the Security Update for Windows Server 2012 (or R2) (KB3172729), select "Properties", "Content Information" tab.

But this information is not indexed reliably elsewhere and it should be.

    Request for feature implementation:
Include cross-references to embedded updates in http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com data

    Example:
In http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=3173426 package details, there could be a reference to say something like "This update is embedded into KB3172729" and conversely in the entries for KB3172729, it couldā€¦

  4. Add a 'Synchronize Now' option to the Monitoring / Software Update Synchronisation Status screen

Add a 'Synchronize Now' option to the Monitoring / Software Update Synchronization Status screen. When troubleshooting software update synchronization issues it would be nice to run a sync now from the monitor / software update synchronization status view.

  5. Ability to run a command or a task before and after patching using the automatic deployment tool

Would be nice if the Automatic deployment would allow me to have a task or command run before and after patching takes place. there are some applications like McAfee encryption where I need to run a command to have the PC temporarily turn off a process so that it can patch or restart properly.

  6. When SCCM patches a system, the "Updates were installed" field in Control Panel/Windows Update is not updated.

When SCCM patches a system, the "Updates were installed" field in Control Panel/Windows Update is not updated. It would be helpful if this date/time is updated. We have had some end users go to us and say they have not been patched recently.

  7. Software Updates currently begin downloaded by BITS to show as "Downloading"

When using a very slow BITS setting, you may receive errors in the deployment if the download of the Update exceeds expected timing. This leads to a reported deployment error of 0x800705B4 - "This operation returned because the timeout period expired." This is misleading as the BITS jobs are still running at this time.

Add an item in this that if the BITS job is still running or in queue that the status is in "In Progress" with a sub status of "Downloading updates" - ideally showing which updates are in the downloading state.

  8. Ability to test settings for deployment notifications

It would be very helpful to be able to test the configuration for end-user notifications when putting together a software update package or other application deployment. Since there are several configuration settings which can affect what the end-user will see, it would be great if we could visually demo/test the current configuration so we know what the end-user will actually see.

  9. Show Patch/Software Update Size

When building software update packages in SCCM we run into having to build a deployment package to see what size the updates are. The issue we are having is managing the size of these packages which are frequently getting into the multiple GB range. One we ran recently hit almost 6 GB.

This information is on the Windows Update Catalog site, but it doesn't appear to be in SCCM or WSUS. I'm guessing that it isn't in the data that is available to WSUS and as a result SCCM doesn't get it either. It would be very useful if weā€¦

  10. Missing settings in Deploy Software Updates Template

Some new features of Software Updates Deployments are missing in the Template.
This can be frustrating for Admins if they rely on these templates.
All settings you can specify in a Deployment should be part of the Template

  11. VPN Split Tunnel - Possibility to use only a limited number static/fixed IPs

Many companies are very restrictive from a security point of view. They only allow VPN split tunnel if the direct download from the Internet can be restricted to a limited number of well known and trusted static/fixed IPs.
This is already requested for the Cloud Distribution Point: "Option to change SCCM client communication with cloud distribution point to use only one fixed IP" (https://configurationmanager.uservoice.com/forums/300492-ideas/suggestions/13636533-option-to-change-sccm-client-communication-with-cl)

But this requirement can also be applied to OS patches or OS feature packs and Office patches that are directly downloaded from Microsoft (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb693717.aspx) and cannot be provided from Cloud Distribution Pointā€¦

  12. Replace the "Number of Exired Updates" column

With SCCM CB expired updates are automatically removed from SUGs. This means that the column "Number of Expired Updates" in the Software Updates Group view is redundant, the number will always be zero. I would like to see it replaced by a "Number of Superseded Updates" column instead.

  13. Add functionality to run scripts before and after software updates install

We need to be able to run either a VB or Powershell script before and after software updates install. Our example is so that we can put our monitoring system in outage mode and send emails to the support teams.

The 'Server Groups' pre-release feature has something similar, but does not currently work (it crashes Software Center when it runs).

  14. Stick WU server in registryĀ during client upgrade

During an automatic CM client upgrade there is a risk the update agent gets out to internet and download updates and upgrades from Microsoft Update servers before the new client agent is installed. During a CM client upgrade the local GPO/WU server registry settings should be sticky to block this behavior.

  15. SCCM ability to change office 365 channel like in GPO Settings

Would like to be able to change O365 Channels for Clients in SCCM,
Like you can in GPO... currently GPO wont honor the channel I want because SCCM is managing the O365 Client.

  17. Add 'Next Run Time' Column in the Automatic Deployment Rules

In the Automatic Deployment Rules window, it would be helpful to see the next scheduled time the ADR is supposed to run. If it doesn't have one, then the cell would be blank.

  18. Add More User Control Over Windows 10 Branch Upgrades

Currently Windows 10 branch upgrades act similarly to Windows updates. We would like to have more control to release them not unlike the Windows 10 upgrade released by Microsoft where there is a deadline but say, daily notices that users should upgrade.

It would also be handy to have a message talking about the upgrade taking longer than normal with some kind of time given say 30-45 minutes or more accurate times based of telemetry if it's available.

As our fleet moves to Windows 10 we foresee this being more and more an issue.

  19. Allow us to configure Proxy server settings for the console that is downloading Software Updates

On our Primary site server, under Admin > Site System properties, we have set the proxy settings with username and password.

In our company, Domain Admins are blocked at the proxy server from accessing the internet. My colleague, who is an SCCM admin, but not a Domain Admin, can download Software Updates and add them to a Deployment Package. I am a Domain Admin, and when I try this, it fails with: "Error: Failed to download content ID 16902216. Error %1 is not a valid Win32 application."

So, that proxy setting is used by some functions of ConfigMgr, but notā€¦

  20. ADR engine improvements

    - when naming ADR, it would be good to have an option to create a name convention when creating the update group. not just <ADRName>+DateTime, but could use some variables like %MM% %YYYY%, etc.

    - it would be good to have some exclusions options on the search, like exclude when text does not contain, maybe restrict by platform, etc. like the filter we can create on the console but adding options for a more complex with and's and or's

    - multiple collection/template based on time as well as ability to exclude updates based on update group. scenario is when youā€¦
