How can we improve Configuration Manager?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Saved Searches - option to add to the Search Ribbon

many times if we are working on some specific tasks we need to refresh the same searches often. It would be brilliant if we can pin them to the ribbon or if ribbon would have drop down list with favourite searches.

  2. CMPivot Web Portal

We have a lot of people who would love to run queries against our systems (Desktop Support admins for example) that we do not give direct console access to. It would be super helpful to have a web-based interface for CMPivot to allow people an easy method to execute queries.

In addition, a query builder like that of Azure Log Analytics would be helpful as well so we don't have to walk them thru how to write all there queries.

  3. Maintenance Windows using the option to fire on the last given day of a month (last monday, last friday, etc) are incorrectly scheduled

    Collection Properties > Maintenance Windows
    Create a new maintenance window.
Set the maintenance window for Monthly, Recur every: The last day; where the day is the first day (not DATE) of the following month.
Ie, Feb 1, 2019 is a Friday, so schedule for the last Friday of the month with an effective date of 1/1/2019

Turn on the UTC option and set the start and end time to 1:01 AM-3AM. Make sure your client is in UTC-X where X is large enough to cause the start time to be on the previous day. My client was in Centralā€¦

  4. WSUS Cleanup Tool

While managing my WSUS Server, I have been using the Server Cleanup Tool found under Options of the WSUS Console. After having the WSUS Console constantly crashing I engaged Microsoft Support to assist in resolving the issue. While working with support, I found out that the tool does not actually cleanup the obsolete and superseded updates as it leads one to believe that it does, we had to spend over a week running a SQL query to get the query to complete successfully and delete the abundance of obsolete and superseded updates. Once we did get it to complete successfullyā€¦

  5. Enable a column for primary device

Similar to the completed "Enable a column for primary user!" post, this is the exact opposite. When viewing Users in the admin console, please enable a column to show Primary Device (or devices). So when you are viewing a list of users you can see their device(s) easier. Essentially expose this data to the admin. Thank you for your consideration.

  6. SCCM Wizards to provide Associated Log file Details - Similar to SCCM Update Monitor Wizard

How about providing associated log file details at the end of the summary / completion page of all SCCM Wizards to help SCCM admins. I think it would be helpful. What you think?

For example if you are creating a SUP role -> Add Site System Roles Wizard -> Completion page will have the log file name -> SUpsetup.log

Do you love SCCM updates and servicing monitoring log file details?

  7. Add on the "Assets and Compliance page - Client Properties add a setting for "Distribution Point"

Showing the Distribution Point in the properties of a client would be very helpful in determining if the DP was part of a deployment. It would save a lot of troubleshooting time.

  8. Searching for an object in the console

When searching for an object in the console, add the location path for the objects found. It lists all the found objects, but I still have to hunt through the console to find it's location or use a SQL query.

  9. Add User-Groups and Device Groups to Admin Console (Under "Assets and Compliance" - "Overview" )

In the Admin Console at "Assets and Compliance" - "Overview", please add 2 Points: User-Groups and Device-Groups. Remove the User-Group-Resource Type from the "Users".

in our environment, sometimes we have to "delegate" admin-doings trough Device- or Usergroups from Active Directroy.

    Tank you

  10. health attestation

The health attestation reporting under the security folder is much too basic. Example, I have a bunch of machines that say error in the health attestation status, when you click on error, it gives you a list of machines, but doesn't tell you what the problem is, and there isn't any logging that I have found that helps to determine what the problem is.

This would be a great tool to find machines that need to have bitlocker activated or secure boot enabled, but when a large number of machines just say error, and no apparent way to find outā€¦

  11. Add "Open Content Location" option when right clicking on a deployment type

Add an "Open Content Location" option when right clicking on a deployment type. Selecting the "Open Content Location" option should open explorer to the "Content Location" for the specified Deployment type.

This should work much like the "Open File Location" option you get when you right click a shortcut on the Windows desktop.

  12. Add an address bar to the "Browse Registry" window when creating registry based detection methods

Add an address bar like regedit has on Windows 10 to the registry browser when creating detection methods for applications. Currently you have to drill down to the registry location that you need every time you open the registry browser.

Also, if the address bar could have a dropdown of "favorites" or "most used" locations, that would save a lot of time when creating applications.

  13. Button to Temporarily Disable SCEP

It would be great for both devices and collections to be able to right-click or click a button in the ribbon to temporarily disable SCEP. Many times do we have a piece of software that requires A/V to be disabled to install. We have a collection that disables SCEP, so we move the machine to that collection, and then move it back later, but sometimes you don't get the all clear, or you just get busy. If you could click a button to either disable, or temporarily disable immediately, that would be amazing. I have used other A/V products thatā€¦

  14. Add 'are you sure' logic to buttons in the ribbon

Would be great to have a prompt for certain buttons in the ribbon to verify you clicked the correct button. Many, many times I want to click 'refresh' on a collection only to accidentally click 'copy'. Not a huge issue, but an annoyance where I have to them delete the unwanted collection.

  15. Fix drag and drop for moving nested folders in a Task Sequence

Specifically moving a nested folder up to the root level. If you use drag and drop, it's hit and miss as to whether the Folder ends up at the root level or nested in some other nearby folder.

The move up/down buttons work around the problem, but if you are moving it up past 20 other TS steps, it's not ideal.

The black line that indicates where you're dragging it has a small arrow head on the end. Maybe change that to a different indicator that would show whether it's dropping it at the root vs. into another folder.

  16. Copy Column Headings When Using Ctrl + C

Its a fairly basic requirement for Collections and Queries, and as SCCM's data comes from SQL which has a console that allows you to copy and paste query results INCLUDING the column headings, it has to be a simple task surely?

Whether it is simple or not, copying and pasting data from Collections and particularly Queries is a very frequent task for most admins, and is huge time saver compared to creating Reports.

So, *please* can you add this in?

  17. Add separate security role permission for CMPivot

Console users must have "Run Scripts" security role permission to use CMPivot. Can you add a separate security role permission for CMPivot so we can make administrative users with CMPivot permission but not "Run Scripts?"

  18. Updating admin console without the need of local admin rights

After upgrading the site, the admin console need to be update. So why does it needs to need a local admin to make the update? Just do it as the client and make it automatically updates.
