How can we improve Configuration Manager?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. Toggle to show or hide disabled steps in a task sequence

I'm working with standardised task sequences where there are a whole bunch of disabled items. It would be nice to view just the enabled steps without having to remove all the disabled steps. I was thinking along the lines of a tick box toggle to show or hide disabled steps.
I know there are other UV requests for search within a TS, disabled steps could also be a criteria selection within that search as an alternative to my initial suggestion.

    • Bug report: task sequences previously viewed disappear after "view content status"

when viewing "references" of a task sequence, then following "view content status" for a package with < 100% compliance, and "redistributing" that package to whichever DP(s) have errors, and then going back to "software library" and viewing the others in the "references" tab for the same TS, the entire list of TSes in the previous place disappear

      • On windows 10 servicing page, allow us to click on expire and expire soon

On the windows 10 servicing home page, it would be very helpful if we could click on the expired and expire soon percentages and have it show us which computers meet those criteria. It would be much faster than having to go an run a report to get the same information we could get here.

        • Add an option to the search feature to include sub-folders.

The current search feature within the Admin Console only searches through the currently selected folder. Adding an option to allow sub-folders to be included in the search would make finding objects much more efficient.

          • SMS_SITE_SYSTEM_STATUS_SUMMARIZER

It would be nice if there would be an entry when the SMS_SITE_SYSTEM_STATUS_SUMMARIZER with the Reason why the Component Status changed?

For Example 'Component X changed to Warning because of reaching the defined Information Threshold'

The masterpiece would be to generate an Alert for this Events

            • In the Edit task sequence window include the step numbers.

When troubleshooting, the monitoring console shows the step number, but the sequence editor does not. Can we get the step numbers listed in the editor as well?

              • Console behavior after reconnecting to the network

After you reconnect to the network, the console stops to work correctly.
Some functions works without issues, other's don't, for example looking up a user in "assets and compliance", and clicking "Primary device" wont return the the actual device, but goes into "Devices" view displaying all the devices. Other functions may result in error messages. A simple restart of the console does fix this, not a big deal, but sometimes a bit of an annoyance if it happens when you creating a new deployment or doing some larger task.

                • For the Admin Console, a parameter to launch it targeting primary sites, so you can have icons for multiple primary's

At present, i can only launch the console and then 'Connect To a New Site' - not great if you want to automate launching the console to point to different primary's. You could have "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\AdminConsole\bin\Microsoft.ConfigurationManagement.exe" /target:"machine.fqnd.com"

                  • Collection ribbon button grouping

Change button grouping in the Collection ribbon, so Refresh is separated from Copy and Delete.

                      • Saved Searches - option to add to the Search Ribbon

many times if we are working on some specific tasks we need to refresh the same searches often. It would be brilliant if we can pin them to the ribbon or if ribbon would have drop down list with favourite searches.

                        • CMPivot Web Portal

We have a lot of people who would love to run queries against our systems (Desktop Support admins for example) that we do not give direct console access to. It would be super helpful to have a web-based interface for CMPivot to allow people an easy method to execute queries.

In addition, a query builder like that of Azure Log Analytics would be helpful as well so we don't have to walk them thru how to write all there queries.

                            • WSUS Cleanup Tool

While managing my WSUS Server, I have been using the Server Cleanup Tool found under Options of the WSUS Console. After having the WSUS Console constantly crashing I engaged Microsoft Support to assist in resolving the issue. While working with support, I found out that the tool does not actually cleanup the obsolete and superseded updates as it leads one to believe that it does, we had to spend over a week running a SQL query to get the query to complete successfully and delete the abundance of obsolete and superseded updates. Once we did get it to complete successfully…

                              • Enable a column for primary device

Similar to the completed "Enable a column for primary user!" post, this is the exact opposite. When viewing Users in the admin console, please enable a column to show Primary Device (or devices). So when you are viewing a list of users you can see their device(s) easier. Essentially expose this data to the admin. Thank you for your consideration.

                                • SCCM Wizards to provide Associated Log file Details - Similar to SCCM Update Monitor Wizard

How about providing associated log file details at the end of the summary / completion page of all SCCM Wizards to help SCCM admins. I think it would be helpful. What you think?

For example if you are creating a SUP role -> Add Site System Roles Wizard -> Completion page will have the log file name -> SUpsetup.log

Do you love SCCM updates and servicing monitoring log file details?

                                  • Add on the "Assets and Compliance page - Client Properties add a setting for "Distribution Point"

Showing the Distribution Point in the properties of a client would be very helpful in determining if the DP was part of a deployment. It would save a lot of troubleshooting time.

                                    • Searching for an object in the console

When searching for an object in the console, add the location path for the objects found. It lists all the found objects, but I still have to hunt through the console to find it's location or use a SQL query.

                                      • Add User-Groups and Device Groups to Admin Console (Under "Assets and Compliance" - "Overview" )

In the Admin Console at "Assets and Compliance" - "Overview", please add 2 Points: User-Groups and Device-Groups. Remove the User-Group-Resource Type from the "Users".

in our environment, sometimes we have to "delegate" admin-doings trough Device- or Usergroups from Active Directroy.

                                        Tank you

                                        • health attestation

The health attestation reporting under the security folder is much too basic. Example, I have a bunch of machines that say error in the health attestation status, when you click on error, it gives you a list of machines, but doesn't tell you what the problem is, and there isn't any logging that I have found that helps to determine what the problem is.

This would be a great tool to find machines that need to have bitlocker activated or secure boot enabled, but when a large number of machines just say error, and no apparent way to find out…
