How can we improve Configuration Manager?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

Have one search field for Users / Devices that will accept multiple serach terms.
    One place where I can type Username/User Surname/Device Name/Device Serial Number/Mac Adrerss/GUID

and get a result will all possible assosiations.

if i search for Contoso\User1, I hould get all the devices where he is Primay user, if i sherch for Mac Adress it should return the device that have it. etc.

    Suport partial match too

  2. Tabs and windows

The console is very modal. Trying to compare two things side by side is impossible. What we need is tabs and woodies. Let me right click a node or an object and bring it up in a new window or tab so i don't have to keep performing the same searches over and over again.

  3. Allow filtering to all-subfolders when browser for packages/applications during a task sequence.

When you browse for packages or applications to add to a Task Sequence, you can only filter to the current folder. When you have a massive folder structure with hundreds or thousands of packages/applications you have to browse for a while to find what you need. If you could change the filter to be all subfolders, it would resolve this issue perfectly!

  4. Export collection members

Exporting member of collection to excel sheet is though easy but for large number or members (say more than 20K), it takes time to get them exported in the excel. MS should put the 2007 feature back which was just right click on collection and "Export Objects".

  5. Refresh Search New Collection

when creating a new collection from a search result (ie. user/device). once the collection is created, the search should not be refreshed. as today, the search is cleared. if you have a custom search, you need to apply all filters or load the search again, and it can take time on large environments

  6. Delete multiple objects from console

It would be very great and intuitive to be able to delete multiple apps \ deployment types\ deployments \ packages \ driver packages and even folders from Console without creating custom PowerShell scripts.
Today when selecting multiple objects the delete option becomes greyed out.

  7. view status

the view status option (ie deployment, content status, etc). only allow 1 option each time, so if you click view status and need to go back to the list it will refresh and you may need to filter it back and view status on the other one that you want. it would be good if the view status could be done on selected items, so you click view status (maybe right click the select and view status) and it would create the node for all selected items

  8. When a console crashes and you are editing a task sequence, allow sedo unlock if user name matches yours

It happened to me yesterday with SCCM 1602 CB, I was editing two task sequences at the same time, trying to copy a section from one into the other when the console crashed. I needed the work done and this didn't help as as soon as I started the console again I got the familiar message shown below. The problem is you have to wait 30 minutes for the sedo lock to be removed or use PowerShell cmdlets to try and remove the lock.

I don't think that is necessary at all as there is already a retry button onā€¦

  9. real-time

Display real-time installation status on a per machine or per collection basis within the SCCM console. For instance, if installing 20 software updates to a single client, one has to log into the client, launch Software Center, and view the installation status for each update. This status could be installing, waiting to install, reboot required, etc. Rolling this up into the console to say installing 1 of 20, 5% complete, installing application X, 25% complete, running task sequence step 4 of 10, 40% complete, rebooting, back online, etc. would be valuable on a per server or per collection basis. 10. User Voice Console Integration

The ConfigMgr PG encourages users to share ideas and concerns via user voice. It would be helpful to have the user voice portal linked in the ConfigMgr console in a context sensitive way so that at any node a User Voice submission can be made and appropriate metadata from the console (location, details) shared (as an option) to help describe the particular submission (where applicable)

  11. Allow search for multiple items at once

Allow for searching for multiple items at once in the console search. Example - Add multiple package IDs to the search PR100158, PR1001CD for example. Useful when trying to re-distribute multiple content, search for related items such as dependencies, pre-reqs etc.

  12. Add direct link to Logs file in Ribbons bar

Add in the Ribbon toolbar, a direct access to the log (opening it through cmtrace).
For example, when doing a check for updates in "Updates and Servicing", in the ribbon next to "Client update options" icon, we can add an icon to open the proper "dmpdownloader"log file !!
So, we don't have to remember all logs or bing internet to find the right log ... we would gain a lot of time and be sure that everything is working fine !!

  13. Set a Default Security Scope for user

It would be nice to be able to assign a default security scope to a user.
Ie; if someone creates a package, sccm assigns their set security scope(s) to the package instead of manually setting it.

  14. Within the SCCM console, allow multi-select for adding columns to the view with single right-click

Currently within the SCCM console, to add columns you would right click on the column headings and select additional columns to add. Selecting one heading returns you back to the view. Adding additional heading requires additional right-click and selections.

Would be nice to be able to select multiple column headings in a single right-click.

  16. Ability to Right-Click a Device and View All Recent Status Messages

Provide a simpler way to target a Status Message Query at a Device by allowing you to Right-Click and View its latest Status Messages, rather than having to manually run through the Status Message Wizard.

  17. clone deployments

Allow cloning of deployments from one application to another (e.g. complicated set of deployments on application A, copy and paste them to application B to reduce the amount of clicks required to perform the task)

  18. Display Security Scopes and Collections columns by default under Administrative Users

Many organizations struggle a lot with the concepts in Role Based Administration. One of the things I see that helps them immensely to see how they've misapplied security is to simply turn on the Scopes and Collections column views under Administrative Users. While the Roles are shown by default, without the Scopes and Collections, there isn't enough context for them to understand what is actually set up.

Please display the Security Scopes and Collections columns by default under the Administrative Users view in the ConfigMgr console. This will help people understand RBA at a glance much more easily.

    Thanks forā€¦

  19. Integrate Announcement Settings

Integrate Annoucement settings to the console like the product Cireson Configuration Manager Ticker app. Send schedule or as soon as possible notification directly for user's display.

  20. Add a Favourites feature to the SCCM 2012 Console. Favourites would allow user to "jump to" various points within console.

Add a Comments field to the device record and allow an admin to update it via the console.
